What Is It

Dermal lip fillers made from hyaluronic acid provide immediate plumping, smoothing, and definition. Results appear right away and last 6–12 months. Options include Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane L, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Defyne.

What to Expect

Mild swelling and tenderness are normal and usually resolve within 24–48 hours. Because lips are vascular, bruising is common but fades in 5–6 days. Small bumps may appear, but since filler is moldable, gentle massage over a couple of days helps them smooth out.

After Care

Ice on and off for the first 24 hours to help minimize swelling and bruising. Avoid smoking for first 24 hours. Refrain from strenuous exercise for first 24 hours.

Lip Filler FAQ

K
L

How Long Does Lip Filler Last?

Lip fillers usually last anywhere from six months to 1 year, depending on the type of augmentation and the patient’s metabolic rate. Some products, like Juvéderm, can last for 18 months with the proper care and maintenance. Over time, the body metabolizes the filler and the lips gradually return to their original shape.

K
L

How Long Does Swelling Last After a Lip Filler Treatment?

Mild bruising and swelling are common after lip fillers and usually resolve within one week. To ease discomfort, apply an ice pack wrapped in a thin cloth to the area. If swelling persists, consult your doctor.

Your Livio provider will also give you personalized instructions to help minimize swelling and support healing.

How Much Does Lip Filler Cost in Cincinnati?

The cost of lip fillers can vary widely depending on the type and amount of product used. At Livio, we keep it simple—all lip filler treatments are $659. During your consultation, your injector will discuss your goals and recommend the best product to achieve your desired look.

K
L

Is Lip Filler Permanent?

Lip fillers typically last 6–12 months, depending on how much is injected, where it’s placed, and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. Regular maintenance treatments can extend results.

The right filler for you depends on your goals. Options like Juvederm Ultra XC, RHA 3, Versa, and Restylane Kysse create a natural, plump look, while Volbella XC provides subtle volume.

When Can I Wear Lipstick After Lip Filler?

It is essential to wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup to your lips. You will want to keep your lips hydrated during the first couple of days after your lip filler treatment, which will help reduce dryness and peeling. Drink plenty of water, and apply aquaphor or chapstick to your lips in the first 24 hours. You can apply lipstick after 24 hours but choose a gentle easy to remove gloss for the first couple of days after your treatment.

Can I Drink After Lip Filler?

During your recovery from a lip filler procedure, you may wonder whether it’s advisable to drink after your injections. Alcohol can affect the healing process and potentially worsen any bruising or swelling. You should wait at least 24 hours after your treatment before you resume drinking.

K
L

Can I Smoke After Lip Filler?

You should avoid smoking for at least two days after getting a lip filler. Smoking could damage your lips and expose them to infection, and smoking can also cause wrinkles, age spots, and discoloration.

Can You Eat After Lip Filler?

If you plan to eat after getting a lip filler, it’s important to avoid salty foods. Excess sodium will dehydrate your lips, and it also irritates the lips. You should also avoid spicy foods.

Drink plenty of water to keep your lips hydrated.

Can You Get Lip Filler While Breastfeeding?

The FDA advises against dermal fillers while breastfeeding, and at Livio, we do not treat patients who are nursing. It’s best to delay fillers until after weaning and always discuss any injectable treatments with your healthcare provider during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Can You Kiss After Lip Filler?

After lip filler, bruising, swelling, and soreness are common for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid applying firm pressure to your lips for at least 72 hours. Kissing is generally safe but should be postponed for two days to allow proper healing.

Can Lip Filler Be Dissolved?

If you’re unhappy with your results, lip filler can be safely dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid so the body can reabsorb it. The filler typically dissolves within 3–4 days, though some patients may need 2–3 sessions for full correction.

Does Lip Filler Hurt?

At Livio Med Spa, we apply a strong topical numbing cream—and, if needed, a dental block—to ensure your lip filler treatment is comfortable and virtually painless. The procedure is quick, effective, and typically causes only minor side effects such as bruising, swelling, or tenderness. Schedule a consultation with our experts to learn what to expect.

Aftercare: Drink plenty of water and keep your lips moisturized to support healing. You may use ice or over-the-counter pain relievers for discomfort and should avoid strenuous activity for at least two days.

L

What should I expect

Most clients report little discomfort during lip filler treatments. We provide a topical numbing agent or, for those with lower pain tolerance, a dental block for a fully numb experience.

All fillers used at Livio are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that rarely causes reactions. After treatment, mild swelling, redness, or bruising may occur, so plan for a short downtime if scheduling before a big event.

How long will my results last?

Results can last from 6 months to a year.
