“It’s no secret that cold, harsh weather can wreak havoc on your skin. When you step outside, cold conditions can leave your skin sore and inflamed, while dry indoor heat can take its toll on your skin’s moisture. You can’t win.

Luckily there are many ways to combat dry skin in the winter. Let’s start with the basics, staying hydrated. Every year we make the same ‘ole New Years Resolution: drink more water. Keeping your water intake up can seem like a daunting task when we have our busy workdays, so let’s discuss tips to make it a bit easier.

  • Every day set a drinking water goal. Establish and set a water goal each day, if you have an “end goal” you can see the finish line. If you’re someone who needs a constant reminder, there are reusable water bottles that track your intake and nudge you to drink up!
  • Eat hydrating foods. While drinking water is very important, there are many healthy foods that can contribute to your daily intake. Water-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, soups, and smoothies are excellent additions to a hydrating diet.
  • Infusing your water. The reality is that some people don’t love the taste of water. Infusing water with fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs is an easy way to increase your water intake while adding flavor and a nutritional boost to plain H2O.

Now let’s move on to skincare essentials.
Trends come and go, but an inevitable constant is that your skin needs a little more TLC in the winter. The drier the air, the drier the skin. Choosing skincare products that keep the moisture you have while adding moisture from the inside out is key. While you likely have favorites that you lean on, keep an eye on the ingredients to ensure you’re using nourishing ones in colder months.

Keep these tips in mind when you’re looking for products this season:

  • During the winter season, switch to a gentle moisturizing cleanser to maintain the skin’s moisture while supporting the skin’s barrier from outside elements.
  • Hyaluronic Acid at any time of the year, especially the winter, is necessary. Just be sure to layer an occlusive moisturizer on top for the skin to remain hydrated.
  • Add retinol to your routine to plump and smooth your skin. Retinol increases cell turnover and decreases oil. It also boosts blood flow to the skin, which increases the production of collagen.
  • Always follow up your skincare routine with SPF. The biggest mistake you can make is thinking you can skip out on sunscreen in the winter. Especially when using products that make your skin more vulnerable to UV rays.
    Stay safe, stay healthy!”
